Sydney Carroll
pine needle artist
I have been creating art for over a decade in the mediums of collage, basketry, metal, and ceramic. I taught myself to weave from an online video years back and never stopped. I love the slowness of my craft…selecting each pine needle and wafting the resin-y aroma as they soak. When I sit with a tree I feel at home. I belong to my senses and to the world while my fingers weave.
Being an artist is a gift that brings me flow and presence. And creating art with found plant items makes my inner child feel ecstatic! I am inspired by the shapes of nature, especially the curves of water, and biomorphic essence of driftwood. For me, art is a portal to sensual delight, intention, connection and beauty.
I was born in Berkeley, California in 1996 and grew up in the east Bay Area of California. We had a big, twisty oak tree in the back yard that I loved to climb. Currently I live in Seattle, Washington with my cat Nori.
